Along with the firm orders, Delta also secured purchase options for 20 more Airbus widebodies. With the order, Delta now has plans to fly 79 A350s, including 20 of the largest A350 variant, the A350-1000, for which deliveries are slated to begin next year. Delta's A330-900 fleet will reach 55 aircraft.  The carrier currently operates a combined 79 A350-900s and A330-900s.   Delta said that the addition of more A350s, which offer the longest range among midsize widebodies, will enable continued growth into Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the South Pacific, such as recently launched or announced flights to Taipei, Melbourne, Hong Kong and Riyadh.  The Airbus widebody order is the second twin-aisle order Delta has placed this month. The other, for 30 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, was Delta's first Dreamliner order. Deliveries of those planes are slated to begin in 2031. Delta said it will likely put the 787-10 on transatlantic routes and on routes to South America.
